Don't overgeneralize, don't oversimplify, don't assume. Read thoroughly, reread, highlight and underline, take notes during the second reading. Investigate, look for answers, look up words you don't know or don't understand. Look into the authors background and others thoughts on the book. namely the authors. Write down key happenings, to give you a refresher later.
